TEAP FC supremo, Achebe Okoro has warned Nigeria U17 against complacency when they Mexico U17 tomorrow, in the final of the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup.
The Golden Eaglets lock-ons with their Mexican counterparts in UAE 2013 final on Friday evening, and the administrator has warned that the Mexicans will not be an easy proposition, despite their heavy loss to Nigeria in the early round of the Cadet Tournament.
"The most important thing is that we win tomorrow,” he told teapfcabuja.blogspot.com.
"The boys must win to reward their loyal fans, who have always kept faith with them.
"We know that we’re going to have to play well if we want to come away with a 4th world title. We’re going to have to defend and attack with purpose.
"We know where we want to be, hopefully that is that what we want and won't affect our form on the home stretch.
"They are going to play the way they want to play – they’ll counter and try to impose their style on us. "It’ll take patience, but I know that we have the quality to do well tomorrow. We are unbeaten in the tournament and hoping to complete a double against the defending champions, who have done well since the 6-1 rout, but our form in UAE 2013 have excellent.
"This is a great opportunity to build some momentum – and with our fans behind us, I believe it can happen.” 23 goals have been scored by Nigeria en route to the final of the FIFA U-17 World Cup UAE 2013, taking them to within a single strike of the tournament record. That benchmark of 24, set by Germany in the 2011 edition, will come under threat when the all-conquering Eaglets go up against holders Mexico in Friday’s final.
The Nigerians have set the tournament alight thus far, averaging a hugely impressive 3.8 goals per match thanks to a tally that is over double the haul of their final adversaries. The football loving chairman believes the African side would blaze the trail by surpassing the record set by the Germans.
"We all know the quality of the boys, right from the time they were in camp, winning teams 11-1, 8-2 and so on. That won't be an exception on Friday. The ultimate is winning the cup and creating a landmark for others to follow," he said.
